Kimberley Benjamin

Kimberley is a proud Yawuru, Bardi and Kija woman from Broome in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Kimberley studied a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Journalism at Curtin University and graduated in 2013. She studied journalism in the hope of contributing to more positive representations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the media. She has gone on to work for many community organisations in Perth including Reconciliation WA, ICEA Foundation and the Wirrpanda Foundation and is currently a member of the National NAIDOC Committee.

Kimberley is passionate about having more truthful, positive and inspiring stories about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples told. She wrote and directed her first half hour documentary for NITV ‘Owning Your History’, which was nominated for a 2017 ATOM award - a proud achievement for her and the family involved. Kimberley has gone on to write, direct and produce for documentary, including ATOM nominated arts documentary ‘Barrba Wadbirra: Journey Together’ and was the Series Producer on the recently broadcast ‘Family Rules Series 2’, which was a huge and exciting project. Kimberley is driven to continue telling important stories through film and in the future, will return home to Broome to do so.
